Clean Industrial Deal - Factsheet

The Clean Industrial Deal (CID) is a European Commission strategy designed to strengthen Europe’s industrial competitiveness while accelerating decarbonisation. It aims to achieve a climate-neutral economy by 2050 by supporting energy-intensive industries, boosting clean-tech leadership, and promoting circular economy practices.

The Deal introduces simplified State Aid rules, tax incentives, and CBAM adjustments to stimulate private investment and reduce administrative burdens. It also emphasizes clean energy infrastructure, sector-specific action plans (automotive, steel, chemicals), and workforce upskilling through a “Union of Skills.”

Through Horizon Europe, the CID funds research, innovation, and large-scale demonstration projects to move clean technologies from development to market deployment, strengthening Europe’s industrial base and strategic autonomy.
