Advanced materials decide how well European products perform, how efficient they are and how sustainable — they are the backbone of European industry, and of its competitiveness. Yet a new advanced material still takes 10 to 20 years to reach the market, and Europe's competitors are moving faster. Europe's problem is not weak research: it is speed. The Vision argues that closing this gap takes more than investment alone — it takes a change in how the work itself is organised — and sets out what that change looks like, and what it would take.
