Transforming Industrial Waste into Sustainable Construction Products
The GEORIS consortium, backed by EIT RawMaterials, proved a disruptive technology that turns hazardous industrial residues like bauxite and steel slag into durable, cost-effective paving blocks and other construction materials. With over 62 % recycled input and cost savings nearing 25 % in a pilot using 4 tons of residue, the initiative now aims for product standardisation and expansion into Eastern and Southeastern European RIS regions.

Empowering Local Climate Action Through Smart Data
Local authorities increasingly face climate-related disasters, yet many lack timely data and forecasting tools. The Climate‑KIC initiative helps fill this gap by delivering climate services based on earth-observation and geospatial data, enabling better decision-making across sectors like agriculture, urban resilience and water management. Through innovation procurement projects such as PCP WISE and PROTECT, over 200 buyers and suppliers co-develop solutions tailored to real-world conditions in diverse European regions.

Europe Poised for Leadership in Advanced Materials Through Major Skills Initiative
The newly-launched EIT RawMaterials-led European Advanced Materials Academy aims to train 200,000 learners by 2029 to strengthen Europe’s advanced materials sector with sustainable, high-tech talent. Addressing industry needs in energy, mobility, electronics and construction, the initiative aligns with the EU’s strategy for industrial leadership and future skills development.

Greece Charts a New Course in European Innovation
Greece officially launched the EIT Community Hub Greece in Athens to integrate its innovation ecosystem with Europe’s largest network for entrepreneurship and sustainable growth. The country’s manufacturing sector, representing around 8.7 % of GDP, gains momentum through investments in digitalisation and Industry 4.0 technologies. By linking local startups, research institutions and industry with Europe-wide programmes, Greece positions itself as a key contributor to the continent’s innovation agenda.

ClimAccelerator 2025: Call for Start-Ups
The Climate KIC invites cleantech start-ups worldwide to join its global ClimAccelerator programme, designed to fast-track climate solutions into scalable businesses. Over the past 15 years the initiative has catalysed breakthroughs in carbon reduction, adaptation and resilience. Interested entrepreneurs can apply by the rolling deadline of 31 December 2025, with full details available online.

InnoNext call for EIT talents and start-ups
The InnoNext call invites students, graduates of EIT Label programmes, EIT Alumni and start-ups/SMEs supported by the EIT Community to apply for fully-funded innovation internships across Europe. Talents gain real-world experience while companies host specialised research freelancers without financial burden. Applications remain open until July 31 2026.

KAVA Call 13 – Upscaling
The EIT RawMaterials invites consortia of at least two partners from different Horizon Europe-eligible countries to apply for KAVA Call 13 – Upscaling, aimed at bringing validated technologies in mining, materials processing and recycling closer to market readiness (TRL > 5 up to TRL 8). Projects must span up to 2.5 years, feature a commercialisation plan, and can receive between €500,000 and €2.5 million + in funding, with co-funding required (minimum 30 %). Key deadlines include 28 Feb 2025, 30 May 2025, 29 Aug 2025 and 28 Nov 2025 at 13:00 CET.

Call for RIS Projects
The EIT RawMaterials invites organisations from RIS-eligible countries across Eastern, Southern and under-represented Europe to apply for its “Call for RIS Projects – Capacity Building & Innovation”. The scheme supports two pathways: Capacity Building Projects (1–3 years, 100 % funding) aimed at training, ecosystem-development and policy support, and Innovation Projects (1–3 years, co-funded) focused on new technologies, services or business models in the raw-materials value chain. Eligible partners must include at least two organisations from different RIS regions and cover both research/education and business. Deadlines run on rolling cut-offs including 29 August 2025 and 28 November 2025.
